Dissertating with Cat, Part II

The cat sits upon my notes.
I can no longer type.
The cat begins to chew my notes.
I can no longer outline.
The cat sprawls herself across the book open on my lap.
I can no longer read.
The cat sits always before me,
as I can no longer play.

This simple, understated poem, captures many of the elements of haiku, the syllable length notwithstanding. The depth of emotion shows maturity of vision, while escaping the the bonds of sentimentality.
